About Reina Saijo
My passion for fragrance dates back to when I was in the fifth grade of elementary school. Through a fragrance experience organized by my father, I was strongly attracted to perfumers, whose job is to create fragrances. I still vividly remember the moment when I felt an electric shock running through my body. Since then, just thinking about fragrance brings back that electric shock to my body.
In high school, I visited Grasse, the birthplace of fragrance, but I gave up on that dream when I learned that fragrance requires a background in chemistry. However, after studying abroad in Toronto, I returned to Japan and started working in chemistry at Tohoku University, which opened the door to the world of fragrance again. I think this was the fateful opportunity that drew me back to the world of fragrance. After that, I spent about eight years deepening my knowledge of chemistry at university and an analytical equipment manufacturer, and learned the basics of fragrance at a fragrance school in Grasse.
After returning to Japan, I worked as a salesperson for a major fragrance agency, and had the opportunity to talk to many customers about fragrances at department stores in Tokyo. There, I felt that when Japanese people choose fragrances, they are influenced by perspectives such as "how others see me" and "popular fragrances." However, since the olfactory receptors of fragrances are close to the amygdala, which controls instincts, you cannot choose your true fragrance unless you access your own instincts. Therefore, I want to support each person to draw out their individual potential through fragrance and find their own axis. In 2024, we signed an import agency contract with Indal Paris at the world-famous fragrance exhibition held in Milan. We decided to launch the business because we believe that this brand will be a catalyst for enhancing the olfactory potential of Japanese people. Although the culture of fragrance has not yet taken root in Japan, we would like to convey the charm of fragrance and expand the possibilities of the olfactory sense.

About Houonsya
I wanted to incorporate my family history into the company name, and I feel moved whenever I hear stories about my grandmother, especially my family members. I think we look alike, and even though I've never met her, she had a big influence on me. Her name was Yoshiko, and she has words like "fragrant" and "fragrant," so I included the character "Hou." I treasure words, especially words that people give me, and I'm planning to create a fragrance brand called Houonsha, and I would like to include the word "Houon" in the brand concept or brand name. I named it "Houonsha" with the meaning of not forgetting to be grateful to words and people who support me.
